Banned Again from DPReview?

Yes :-)

I was getting along just fine on DPReview until yesterday, when lloydy and painterdude and one other inconsequential person orchestrated a concerted attack on me. I kept my responses as neutral as possible while still being pointed, but alas … you don’t mess with the attack pack. They love that complaint button …

Interestingly, I pressed the complaint button a couple of times myself yesterday … maybe that’s why I got nailed. Only the attack pack is allowed to use that device :-)

VelventAnt received just such a notice a week or two ago and then received a permanent ban a day or two later. I would not be surprised to see the same thing here. And frankly … it might be for the best. DPReview forums seem to be devolving into a bit of a gong show these days … certainly the Fuji Talk Forum, where bullshit passes as information, lies are used to insult and one-liner dismissals like “talk to the hand” hand pass as considered debate. (I’m not kidding about that last one … painterdude busted that out just yesterday :-)
*sigh* … been there and done that.

Forgot to mention this touch ... yesterday, mr. talk to the hand called for a permanent ban for me, although I had done nothing but defend myself. And I predicted in bold that he had just subtly put out the call for a coordinated complaint button attack. That post is deleted now and so am I. I think I might have them sussed :-)

Update: The parade of idiots and fan boys (this is a loooonnnnnggggggg parade) has finally driven one of the top contributors (quality, not quantity) away. Ted (a.k.a. tdkd13) has announced his retirement from the forum. Wow … the place is turning into a desert …

Updates: Ted is back, but *very* subdued. Velvet Any melted down completely later on and when she came back she attacked all her old friends and switched sides. It was embarrassing to watch the pandering, and that still continues. Sad.

The bias of dpreview is unbelievable.

Yeah ... I guess this is simply a case where they decided that I was "bickering" too much. Obviously, they want the attack pack to have an open playing field ... they can say whatever misquotes and untruths they feel like, insult incessantly and we must turn the other cheek. I'm not real good at that yet :-)

Amazingly, I thought I was pretty restrained considering the unrelenting attacks yesterday. Oh well ... their strategy continues to work really, really well. I must hand it to them ... they've read the situation perfectly.

Not to worry you'll have more time to post on your blog now. Have to say following your interesting F70EXR information I've given it a bash and so far pretty impressive little machine.

Thanks Barry. The F70EXR remains my fave for a compact cam, but the F80 has done well lately. I'll be publishing NYC images starting tonight.

Glad you still like the F70EXR; I was getting worried after all the F80 posts. Still liking my F70.
Sorry, though unsurprised, to hear about the ban. Their loss.

Juniper: I'm trying to give the F80 its fair shake. I need to be able to characterize it in use as well as in testing. So far it's as nice to use as the F70, so we'll see once I'm through with posting NYC. And thanks for the kind words.

Complaint in regards to : http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1012&message=35431781

Just posted this via the complaint button :

Sorry folks, this complaint is against DPR's moderators, although the guy that posted this often goes out of his way to bait and insult. There are enough like him in this forum that several GOOD participants have finally thrown in the towel and left. It seems pretty clear that while you'd prefer harmony, increased traffic takes precedence, and you (all) are too often guilty of banning those that are the brunt of attacks when the attackers conspire to press the complaint button, mostly due to hatred and revenge, not because there was much of anything worth complaining about in the replies. Oh, and congratulations for belatedy culling 1/2 of the replies in a thread that got out of control, while at the same time leaving the OP, the message that started the thread which was very short and which was in its entirety a personal attack. Too shorthanded to do thorough investigations you say? Sorry again but I don't buy that. It just shows what DPR's true priorities are. You just want peace and quiet, just like the American cities and states that forced doctors to give up their practice to "calm the waters" when they were constantly picketed and harrassed by coordinated teams of angry and (sometimes lethally) violent demonstrators/agitators. You keep things peaceful by handing the keys and give control to the most lunatic inmates in the forum.

Bill, thanks for that. I appreciate the support. I won't publish the other comment, but these both clearly articulate how I feel about DPReview policies right now. The inmates have been given control ... I admitted as much in my response to Dave ... i.e. he essentially has control of forum membership and does not need to be such a prick about it. His neurotic attacks yesterday were very effective in the end, but a good thing to come out of the mess is that lloydy himself appears to have also been banned. Hopefully, he won't sue someone LOL. Unfortunately, by allowing such antics to succeed, the mods have imbued a whole new generation with a sense of entitlement and invulnerability that has them patronizing people who are far more knowledgeable. And what is much worse is the stunning amount of ignorant and unlearned discourse that transpires there on a daily basis. As far as I can tell, all of this was the cause of Ted's retirement, and it was partially to blame for my rather enthusiastic response to the sudden flare up of moron-mania yesterday. With "talk to the hand", "fly by night" and "reality: it delivers" sharing 2 brain cells the forum is pretty much doomed to boring me to tears without the bickering. Ok ... that feels better :-)

What thread got you banned... I must have missed the whole thing. Did they leave it up? Leave up any of the offensive comments by those who shall remain nameless?

Gus: It's really not clear how I got banned. Other than I was getting quite sharp with a few people as the result of a concerted attack by Dave "reality, what a concept". painterdude "talk to the hand" and one or two others ... I think it was "talk to the hand" that called for a permanent banning for me (and anyone who disagrees with those fellas) and I suspect that was the signal to the attack pack because I was gone the next day.

Kim, I am sorry this happened again.
I have come to the conclusion there is NOTHING of value left at FTF as well.
Ted's leaving is sad, but the snarky commentary and the backstabbing are depressing and unpleasant to watch.

On more pleasant subject, I look forward to NYC shots from your F70!
Myself I use either of my little Fuji's a lot, but have just got into m4/3 with an Oly E-PL1 plus pancake lens.
A different beast indeed!

Lili: Thanks, it's tough to like the FTF any more, that's for sure. The smug satisfaction of people like zoooom and "talk to the hand" with the destruction they have wrought is really something to see. Too bad, really. I shot some baby geese with the F70 today, and NYC was the F80. I have to admit I really like both quite a bit.

You`re right about it being tough to like the Fuji Forum thesedays and I honestly thought you were doing really well in the diplomacy department regarding those baiting you.. Keep this Blog up, most who are worth taking to know where to find you anyway ..

Adam ... I should be back on the forum sometime later today, assuming that the email from DPR was accurate. Thanks for the kind words.
