Phnom Phen

Amid the turmoil of the car fiasco, I was able to grab lunch the other day with Nick at one of our favorite haunts – the Phnom Phen in Kanata. This place tends to be pretty full at lunch, as it specializes in Cambodian curries and a soup that resembles Vietnamese Pho on steroids.

I had a chicken curry that is quite spicy, has nuts in the sauce and a dollop of coconut milk on top. It uses white meat (chicken breast) and is simply awesome. The menu lists it as “C1” …

Nick had their spicy beef noodle soup, listed as S11. You must ensure that you order this at medium strength if you cannot take flame-thrower heat in your mouth. As it is, these two dishes were rather spicy.

Both images were shot by the Fuji F70EXR and the cam chose 1600 ISO both times. Plenty of details remains and no significant grain to speak of. Still liking this cam as a carry around …

Note that the extra warmth in the second image is caused by mixed lighting … I chose to adjust Nick’s skin tones because he was a bit blue from window light. This caused extra warmth in the parts lit only by incandescent lights from above.

I absolutely love cambodian style beef noodle soup. difficult to find around here, but definitely a step above pho for me, though i love that as well. looks great. now i am hungry...

Dustin, I agree. The Cambodian version of the beef noodle soup definitely seems much more like a full meal than Pho does. But I'll eat either any day of the week :-)
