I stopped at the Remic Rapids lookout for a few moments on the way home from driving my youngest to an exam during my lunch break and encountered this peculiar formation.
At first glance, it reminds one of a natural sun-dial … but in fact it seems to be simply a lump of goose droppings that fell from some distance and stuck hard to this pebbled concrete surface (a lookout on the Ottawa River.)
Clearly, it melted a bit, and so has formed a point, much as stalagmite formations in caves do. So I believe this is unique enough to deserve a special name …
Bung-Dial?
Dung-Dial?
But my absolute favorite …
Stalagshite
